The Song of the Lamb -- 3rd Sunday of Easter

Reading: Revelation 5:11-14 The book of Revelation can be understood in many ways. One way can be to hear it as a liturgical manual. Revelation lifts up the song of the Lamb, and we are invited to join in the song with all of creation.

I Eat, Therefore I Believe -- 2nd Sunday of Easter

Reading: John 20:19-31 Thomas needed to see Jesus to believe. Jesus calls all who believe without seeing blessed. While we have not seen Jesus, we are not left completely on our own.

Fearful Symmetry -- Easter

Reading: Luke 24:1-12 Symmetry defines much of our existence. The resurrection account in Luke shows a theological symmetry that points to God's redemptive work in Jesus.

Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 It is not uncommon for people to attempt encouraging others by using the platitude "God doesn't give us more than we can handle." That saying can certainly be heard in Paul's letter to the Corinthians. But it is not at all what Paul is doing.

Baptism of Our Lord 2013

Reading: Luke 3:15-22 John the Baptist is an example of humility in Luke's gospel account, insofar as he is clear on his identity. Jesus' baptism makes his identity known, and our baptism proclaims our identity in contrast to the many voices that try to make us unsure of our identity.
