Oct. 17, 2010 — Wrestling with God

Readings:

Genesis 32:22-31

Psalm 121

2 Timothy3:14-4:5

Luke 18:1-8

Jacob wrestles at the ford of the river Jabbok and receives a name change for his encounter.  In this encounter, God proves his faithfulness by remaining close to us even when we are not the people he desires us to be.  Our wrestling with God tells us a great deal about both God and ourselves.

October 10, 2010 — Naaman and Faith

Readings:

2 Kings 5:1-15

Psalm 111

2 Timothy 2:8-15

Luke 17:11-19

The stories today connect with washing and cleansing.  The sermon focuses on the story of Naaman who would have been lost without servants who continue to point the way.  The challenge for us is see ourselves in continuity with those servants as we in love share the good news of God in Christ Jesus
